Hikers and adventure-seekers like to take the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary Tour as this sanctuary is home to jaguars and also features a number of hiking trails through the jungle, waterfalls and streams. You can expect to spot iguanas, deer and numerous bird species. Go on a kayaking expedition to Laughing Bird Caye from Placencia. The crystal clear waters, beautiful weather, and balmy Caribbean breezes make Laughing Bird Caye an ideal kayaking destination. Scuba diving and snorkeling: The Belize Barrier Reef is located just 45 minutes via boat ride off the coast of Placencia. On a typical scuba dive excursion, you may see turtles, rays, moray eels, barracudas, lobsters and even a nurse shark, hammerhead shark, or Caribbean Reef Shark. Dive with sharks near Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve. This reserve is located about 22 miles east of Placencia. Dive into the clear blue waters and swim alongside sharks for an unforgettable experience. The Great Blue Hole is about 3 hours boat ride from Placencia, which is about the same as from Ambergris Caye.
